RECORDING & LOCATION NOTICE

Know what the dashcam captures.

Effective July 20, 2026 · Version 2026-07-20-v1

Current recording method: ECUtilities uses Android screen capture for dashcam recording. The resulting file can include the road camera, driver camera, compatible additional camera views, gauges, overlays, skin, page changes, and controls visible in the captured app display.

1. Camera access

ECUtilities may access selected cameras to display and record road-facing, driver-facing, or other compatible views. Camera availability, quality, concurrent-camera support, orientation, and frame rate vary by device. ECUtilities discovers compatible cameras dynamically and may fall back to fewer views when hardware cannot support the selected combination.

2. Screen capture

Android requires explicit screen-capture permission before recording. While active, the screen-recording service captures the ECUtilities display into a local video file. Anything visible inside the captured app area may appear in the recording, including camera previews, gauges, vehicle values, warnings, layout changes, and recording indicators. Review the display before recording and avoid opening sensitive information.

3. Microphone

Microphone audio is optional and is used only when you enable audio recording or another feature that clearly requests it. Microphone recording can capture passengers, conversations, music, emergency audio, and background sound. Tell passengers when audio may be recorded and obtain consent where required.

4. Location and motion data

Location and device sensors may support speed, compass, G-force, trip or logging features, and related overlays. Accuracy can vary because of GPS conditions, permissions, device sensors, connectivity, and vehicle configuration. Do not treat displayed speed, heading, or motion values as guaranteed legal or safety instructions.

5. People, vehicles, and private property

Recordings may include identifiable faces, voices, licence plates, homes, workplaces, private property, and location clues. You are responsible for complying with applicable recording, surveillance, employment, privacy, trespass, and publication laws and for obtaining any consent required from passengers or others.

6. Local storage and sharing

Routine dashcam recordings are intended to remain in the storage destination you choose on the device. They are not automatically posted to ECUniverse. A recording leaves the device only when you deliberately upload, export, share, back up, or use a clearly identified cloud feature. Deleting an EC account does not automatically erase files stored separately in device storage.

7. Driver attention

Start, stop, position, and configure recording only when safely parked or when a passenger is operating the device. Mount the device lawfully and do not allow the display or controls to obstruct visibility or distract the driver.

8. No guarantee of evidence

Recordings may fail, become corrupted, omit frames or audio, stop because of storage, heat, battery, permission, camera, or operating-system limits, or be unavailable after device loss or damage. ECUtilities is not a certified evidence-preservation, fleet-compliance, or emergency recording system. Check recording status and maintain separate backups where a recording is important.
